19 Macrame Christmas Ornaments for all skill levels

I have become so obsessed with all thing macrame! Macrame Christmas ornaments are a great way to get started if you are new to macrame. There are some tremendous advanced ornaments you can make also and I have you covered from beginner to advanced.

In this blog, I am sharing all the best tutorials, patterns, and kits available to make the perfect Christmas ornaments to hang on your tree. I try my best to make all of them so I can give an honest review and share a pic of how they turned out.

Tools needed to make macrame ornaments

  • Macrame Cords: For most of these ornaments you need 3-5mm cord. This is because you are working on smaller designs. I really fell in love with braided cords, especially for more intricate designs.
  • Scissors: Always a macrame must-have, a sharp pair of scissors.
  • Wood hoops and beads: Most of the ornaments include wood hoops or beads for decoration,

Top Tips

  1. Use braided cords, these are perfect for intricate designs like ornaments
  2. Add an extra few inches to what they say for the cords, maybe just me but mine always end up shorter
  3. Learn the basic knots before you start the harder ones, it will be so much easier

Macrame Christmas tutorials and patterns

1. Shooting star

This is my favorite macrame star decoration. I just love the way it looks with the tassels to create a shooting star effect. A big bonus it is also ringless, so perfect if you only have macrame and looking for something to make.

I found this one really easy to make and really enjoyed it. I made them for a macrame and wood tree I made for my wall.

2. Star with fringe

I made this one in the same color as the video! I guess that is what attracted me to it, my living room is dark blue, and grey with pops of mustard yellow.

This one is one of those that get super easy after a few. Remember to pull the knots tight for a clean look. I would say the only thing I found hard was the cutting of the fringe. Mine just never looked as neat as the one in the video.

Ability Level: Beginner | Time to make: 20/30 min

3. Ringless star

This is a good one if you have no wood or metal rings They are shooting star style again but this time just from the middle.

I found these a little thicker at first but once you have done one or two they are pretty easy to make. I just think they are so adorable, don’t you?

Ability Level: Intermediate Time to make: 40/60 min

5. Owl

I have wanted to make an owl for a long time but always felt a little intimidated. After watching Soulful Notions’ youtube video I was confident enough to give it a try. She explains everything so clearly and it is easy to follow along.

If you don’t have any prior knowledge then this isn’t a design for you yet. She doesn’t teach knots and expects you to have a basic level of macrame knotting.

I put these as advanced because they are tricky to get so perfect like in the video, for me anyway. I had to really take my time and focus to get them right in the end. I think I zone out a little as find macrame so relaxing that when it’s more intricate I do have to be careful to keep my focus,

Ability Level: Advanced | Time to make: 60/90 min
